Gateway has a reputation of reliability and strong support. Their 17” LCD monitor model FPD1765 is cost effective and sufficient for most home and office use. The “TopTenREVIEWS Bronze“ award winning monitor provides the essentials including digital and analog inputs, adequate display, 8ms grey to grey response time and excellent adjustment customization.
We found the Gateway FPD1765 to be a great computer for regular use; however, its shortcomings include the 270 cd/m2 brightness and its lack of additional features.
Display:
Gateway’s display, although not perfect, is satisfactory for most home, office and modest game use. It includes a 600:1 contrast ratio, 8ms response time, 16 million colors and 1280x1024 resolution. We were disappointed that this monitor’s brightness is only 270 cd/m2; whereas, 300 is usually standard. Therefore, prolonged use may strain the eye.
While we wouldn’t suggest this monitor for serious gamers, it is sufficient for casual players or children’s programs.
Ergonomic Adjustments:
The Gateway FPD1765 is great for those who need to customize their monitor for maximum comfort. The monitor’s height, tilt and swivel can be adjusted to fit the most specific needs.
Features:
This monitor includes Kensington lock slots and OSD controls. It is also VESA compatible for easy mounting. Although this monitor is Energy Star efficient, at 48W it uses more power than the top two monitors. Additionally, it does not include integrated speakers or a headphone jack.
Product Support:
Gateway provides FAQs, email support, telephone and live chat (which is a very handy feature). Like many other manufactures Gateway does provide user guides online; however, they are not on the computer’s description page. You have to hunt for a user guide in the document’s section.
Summary:
For the price, the Gateway FPD1765 is a monitor that will not let you down; however, if you are looking for gaming requirements or pivot technology we suggest looking into the Dell or LG.
