One of ViewEra’s company goals is to provide high–performance monitors at a reasonable price, at less than $120 this monitor provides the best bang for your buck. It has great display abilities, is highly compatible, easy to hook up and has integrated 3W speakers.
This sensibly priced monitor competes with the best with a display comparable to the Dell UltraSharp 1707FP. However, it does not have the handy USB ports and is not quite as fast as the LG Electronics Flatron L1732TQ.
Display:
The V172SD 17–inch LCD flat panel monitor has good display and is fast enough for most applications. The speed is one of the fastest at 8ms and is suitable for the average user. In fact, this is a fast enough response time for most high definition games or multi–media displays, such as video.
This monitor has a color depth ability of 16.2 million and a resolution of 1280(H) x 1024(V) SXGA with a typical resolution of 500:1. The brightness is typically 300 cd/mē and the viewing angle is 140° horizontal and 130° vertical, which is comparable to the Dell model. It can connect by both Analog D–sub and Digital DVI–D.
Ergonomic Adjustments:
This monitor only tilts; since many people look at their monitors all day, it should have height adjustability. This monitor requires a stand or other device to adjust height, or it could be wall mounted or attached to an arm.
Features:
This monitor comes with 3W speakers, most are only 1W. A drawback is the lack of a head phone jack, so you have to use the computer’s headphone jack it you want to use your head phones.
Without the stand, it folds down to a thin 1.88 inches, so it would look excellent wall mounted. It uses 40W and on standby 3W, which can be set for 70 minutes or less. It comes with all the accessories you need to hook up the monitor, such as the power adapter and cord as well as the VGA, DVI and audio cables along with instructions. It’s plug and play, so no additional drivers are needed, and it works with PCs and Macs.
The language of the OCD controls can be changed, but the user manual and their website does not list the non–English languages available. You will have to contact the manufacture to find out if they support a specific language.
Product Support:
They post online a complete user manual as well as a few troubleshooting tips, or you can contact them by email or telephone. We contacted them by email with a long list of questions and they responded the same day and answered all of our questions. This kind of quick, quality service is unique.
They offer a three–year parts and labor warranty along with one–year on the LCD panel. They also offer a six–month no dead pixel warranty, so if you encounter five or more dead pixels, you can get a replacement.
Summary:
At the time of this review, this monitor can be found for less than $120. This is a steal, since generally a 17–inch LCD flat panel with digital inputs, advanced display and speakers is unavailable at this price.
However, if you need extra USB ports to download from a digital camera or music player you may want to look at the Dell UltraSharp 1707FP. On the other hand, if you are a major gamer or video editor see the super fast LG Electronics Flatron.
